BDS uses older servers from 2010-2013 that have stood up to the test of time. Additionally, maintenance and components for older infrastructure is often inexpensive and easy to source compared to newer technology.
Due to the limited financial resources of BDS, we are unable to provide an automated solution currently. Future plans involve creating a new backend to remove much of this process.
Website builders such as Google Sites, Squarespace, and Wix limit user control over sites hosted using their software. BDS provides higher levels of customization and control by allowing different software and website builders to be used, in contrast to only a single allowed tool by platforms like Wix and Google Sites.
A server is any software that provides data or services to devices that "talk" with it. Many people choose to use "hosting" or "the cloud", which is, in simple terms, renting a computer that runs a server from a hosting provider, physically located in a building called a "datacenter" with many similar computers. For example, you may consider renting a Minecraft server from a hosting provider** instead of running one on your own computer.
To get your server activated, you must pay the initial down-payment for the plan you have chosen by contacting us. Once your server is activated, you do not need to pay anything for the next calendar month. Once one month has passed since you paid the initial down-payment, you are then able to pay the monthly fee amount for your respective plan if you choose to renew.
Your website will be deactivated shortly after the payment due date has passed. Bearlics Datacentre Services will then send you an e-mail within 0-2 business days with a compressed archive (ZIP file) containing your website's contents, and if applicable, configuration files, images, and other resources. If you choose to pay within 7 days, your website will be promptly re-activated. Otherwise, after the 7 day term has completed, remaining website contents will be removed from our servers to conserve space.
